Extended Education Authorizations


At Southeastern, it’s our goal to offer a high-quality university experience to students all across the U.S. As we continue to expand our distance education program, we are working to comply with state regulations and become authorized to open extension sites and offer online degree programs.

Each state creates its own set of standards as to how out-of-state educational institutions can operate within that state’s borders. This includes offering classes in an actual physical location as well as online. Listed below are our state compliance statements.

Florida

Southeastern University has received Florida licensure exemption from the Florida Department of Education.

Georgia

Southeastern University is exempt from regulation by the Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission based on the O.C.G.A. 20-3-250.3(a)(12).

Maryland

Southeastern University’s online programs are registered with the Maryland Higher Education Commission with the exception of the bachelor’s degrees in human services and nursing and master’s degrees in education and human services.

Nevada

Southeastern University has received a full term license from Nevada’s Commission on Postsecondary Education to offer the Bachelor of Science in Ministerial Leadership to students at the Las Vegas, NV Extension Site.

North Carolina

Degree program(s) of study offered by Southeastern University have been declared exempt from the requirements for licensure under provisions of North Carolina General Statues (G.S.) 116-15(d) for exemption from licensure with respect to religious education. Exemption from licensure is not based upon any assessment of program quality under established licensing standards.

Tennessee

Southeastern University’s Lakeland, FL campus is exempt from Title 49, Chapter 7, Part 20 of the Tennessee Code and the regulations contained in Rule Chapter 1540-01-02 by the Division of Postsecondary School Authorization of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission and may offer, advertise and recruit for online programs offered within the State of Tennessee. This exemption must be renewed annually.

LifePoint Leadership College: An extension site of Southeastern University is authorized for operation as a postsecondary educational institution by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. Virginia

Southeastern University: Mid-Atlantic Extension Site is certified to operate by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

Washington

Southeastern University is authorized by the Washington Student Achievement Council and meets the requirements and minimum educational standards established for degree-granting institutions under the Degree-Granting Institutions Act. This authorization is subject to periodic review and authorizes Southeastern University to [offer/ advertise and recruit for] specific degree programs. The Council may be contacted for a list of currently authorized programs. Authorization by the Council does not carry with it an endorsement by the Council of the institution or its programs.
