History, Bachelor of Arts

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs of Study

Both the Bachelor of Arts degree in History and the Bachelor of Science degree in History prepare students for jobs specifically related to the study of the past, including careers in education, museums and historic sites, archives and libraries, and as historians of corporations, agencies, and non-profit agencies. History graduates are also prepared for jobs which require research skills, analysis, information management, and writing. These include careers in business, government, advocacy, public policy, and development. Along with either a Pre-Law minor, the major also serves as an excellent gateway into graduate studies or law school.

The Bachelor of Arts degree requires 6 hours of intermediate language courses. The Bachelor of Science degree substitutes Macroeconomics and Probability and Statistics for the language requirement. The degree requirements are identical otherwise. Students who complete the History program will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the history of Western Civilization, the United States, and other areas of specialization, as reflected in the elective history courses they have taken.
  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct efficient and effective research and to use that research in well-written historical essays and other papers.
  • Demonstrate the ability to articulate a well-developed philosophy of history that integrates the Christian faith.
