Applied Linguistics, Minor

Program Description: 

The Applied Linguistics minor enables students to develop expertise in areas such as articulatory phonetics, second language acquisition, and syntax and morphology, which support professional preparation and advancement in TESOL and provide a strong foundation for graduate study in linguistics.

Study Abroad, Summer Institute of Linguistics, 10 credit hours:

  • 10 weeks, May to August

Select Four (4) Language Courses from the Summer Institute of Linguistics, the University of North Dakota 

LING 450 Articulatory Phonetics (2 hours)

LING 455 Phonetics of Signed Languages (2 hours)

LING 452 Syntax and Morphology (3 hours)

LING 470 Introduction to Sociolinguistics and Language Development (2 hours)

LING 480 Learner-Directed Second Language Acquisition (3 hours)

Southeastern Main Campus Courses - 8 Hours


Select the following courses amounting to 8 hours:

No more than 4 credit hours of foreign language courses may be applied to minor.

Foreign language credit hours applied to fulfillment of General Education credits may not be applied to the Applied Linguistics Minor

Total Hours: 18 Credit Hours
