  • CTIS 3733 - APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT I


    This course is designed to teach Application Development from a programming perspective. One of a variety of current languages is used based on the decision of the instructor, with approval from the department chair. The main purpose of this course is to teach students basic programming logic. Basic computer proficiency is required to take this course. This course is cross-referenced with MATH 3733.

    A continuation of CTIS 3733. This course is designed to teach more advanced concepts in Application Development.   • CTIS 4903 - INTERNSHIP IN MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS


    This class provides supervised work experience in an organization delivering on-the-job training in management information systems. The intern will be supervised by a faculty mentor and a supervisor in the organization, and will report work experience through written and verbal reports to the faculty mentor.

The College of Education will work cooperatively with Polk County Public Schools to place students in schools/classrooms according to the students’ major/grade level preference.  As part of the course requirements, students must pass the General Knowledge Test (GKT) and provide documentation to the College of Education before the end of the course. This course is Pass/Fail.

  • ECED 4423 - METHODS OF TEACHING PREK-3 SCIENCE


    This course helps students master basic science concepts and skills represented in four domains: Science Knowledge, Science Process Skills and Creative Thinking in Science, Attitudes and Values in Science, and Science Applications and Technology.  The course includes integration of physical education, health, nutrition, and safety, and their relationships to the growth and development of the child and the learning process. The Florida Next Generation Sunshine State Standards of Science for grades K-6 form the core content for the course.

    In this course, students will be placed in a K-12 educational setting to complete tasks in the field that are directly tied to Florida’s Accomplished Practices, Competencies, and Skills for Teachers.  This course is designed to allow students multiple opportunities to observe and interact with teachers and students in K-12 settings (approximately 45 hours) and to participate in classroom tasks such as using data to drive lesson planning, parent communication, and classroom management planning.  The College of Education will work cooperatively with schools to place students according to the students’ major/grade level preference.  As part of the course requirements, students must pass the Professional Education Test (PEd) and provide documentation to the College of Education before the end of the course.  This course is Pass/Fail.

    This course examines various approaches for pre-reading and reading instruction. The course focuses on reading as an interactive process of four cueing systems. The College of Education will work cooperatively with Polk County Public Schools to place students in schools/classrooms according to the students’ major/grade level preference. As part of the course requirements, students must pass the Subject Area Exam (SAE) and provide documentation to the College of Education before the end of the course.

As part of the course requirements, students must pass a portion of the Florida Teacher Certification Exam (FTCE) and provide documentation to the College of Education before the end of the course.

    This course is the study of various models and strategies for effective secondary (6-12) school classroom management.
