SAUG 1133 - CROSS-CULTURAL PRACTICUM This course is offered through CCCU Best Semester as a Study Abroad course. Permission through the Study Abroad office is required prior to enrolling in this course. The course description provided by CCCU is as follows: The Cross-Cultural Practicum is a 3, 4 or 5-credit course that provides students with the opportunity to enrich their understanding of culture and further develop cross-cultural competencies. Through an academic framework that helps students apply theory to practice, students learn more about Uganda through authentic relationships with Ugandans in various contexts. Cultural competencies will be the guide to learning, understanding, and assessment in this course with a secondary goal of specific vocational application. This course is designed as a seminar course that accompanies all USP Inter-Disciplinary Emphasis (IE) cross-cultural internships to provide an academic framework, weekly seminar discussions with peers and facilitated by the instructor, and supervision by a Ugandan professional; all components to help students engage in the Ugandan context in ways that are mutually-beneficial, meeting student learning objectives while simultaneously contributing to the work of Ugandan organizations. Building on the diversity of student interests, living contexts, and internships of IE students, this class utilizes student’s bi-weekly written and verbal reflection of cross-cultural experiences to uncover valuable learning that can be applied to a North American context.
