SOWK 5083 - SOCIAL WELFARE POLICY


This course surveys the history of social welfare as an institution and current state of social welfare programs in America. Attention is given to the analysis of social, economic, environmental, and political forces that shape current policies and programs, including the values and ethics impacting policy. This course encourages critical thinking and explores analytical approaches to contemporary social welfare issues, policies, and programs. Strategies that influence organizational, local, state, and federal policy formation will be explored.
