Students in the College of Christian Ministries and Religion, with the exception of those choosing the Interdisciplinary Studies major, have the option to choose a minor. The minor may be from any department of the University.
The College of Christian Ministries and Religion offers courses and training required for ministerial credentials with the Assemblies of God. Students who plan to apply for ministerial credentials with the Assemblies of God should consult with a Religion advisor for advice in choosing a minor and elective courses that will facilitate fulfillment of the requirements. Completing courses and a degree program does not guarantee that the Assemblies of God will award credentials. The District of Councils and the General Council of the Assemblies of God are solely responsible for the application and approval of ministerial credentials with the Assemblies of God.
All religion students must maintain a “C” (2.0) average in their religion core classes to graduate.
Bible Lands Studies
SEU has partnered with The Center for Holy Lands Studies in offering a study abroad venture to Israel. All religion majors are encouraged to participate during one summer of their academic career. Other majors are also invited to participate using Historical Geography and Archaeology of Israel (3 credits) as predetermined religion core or general elective credits.
First Year Experience (FYE)
First Year Experience is designed to integrate first year students into the vibrant culture of Southeastern University. Each student has the opportunity to connect with other first year students, an upper-class student life leader (First Year Advisor), along with an experienced member of the faculty/staff in our FYE course, Christ Culture and the University. The journey begins at the start of the fall semester and lasts through the spring semester. The fall semester is facilitated through the CC&U course with attention given to the areas of academic success, spiritual development, authentic community, and relevant social/cultural dialogue. The course is a blend of experiential learning, lecturers, and discussion lab groups. The discussion labs provide students with the opportunity to engage with the faculty/staff coach in a close-knit setting in efforts to dive deeper into the course material. The spring semester provides the opportunity for organic discussions and experiences in the Residence Halls and beyond, and is led by the FYE, in connection with the other areas of Student Life. The focus of the FYE is to journey with the first year students to ensure their development and success as they become part of the community at Southeastern.
Any student successfully transferring fewer than 28 credit hours or fewer or with a birth date on or after August 1st, 1995 will be required to go through the First Year Experience which also includes SEU 101. Students previously involved in dual enrollment, Advanced Placement, Summer Scholar, or who have earned college credit during high school are also required to go through the First Year Experience.
The Academy
The Academy, Southeastern University’s three-stage program, is approved by the General Council of the Assemblies of God and allows students to complete the academic requirements for Assemblies of God certification, licensure, and ordination. By completing the entire three-stage program, non-degree seeking students may earn up to 18 hours of general elective credits in the College of Christian Ministries and Religion, which may be applied to the Associate of Ministerial Leadership or one of Southeastern University bachelor’s degree programs.
Ministry Service Requirements
Students in the College of Christian Ministries & Religion who are enrolled in the Associate of Ministerial Leadership (AML), Bachelor of Science in Ministerial Leadership (BSML), or the Bachelor of Arts in Multi-Disciplinary Studies (BAMDS) programs are required to complete a set number of ministry service hours towards the completion of their degree. AML students must complete 30 hours of ministry over the course of one semester. BSML and BAMDS students must complete 60 hours of ministry service or two ministry practicums over the course of two semesters.
