BS in Biology: Veterinary Concentration
This program focuses on the scientific study of biology and the make up of living systems. The program looks in detail at the biological and chemical substances that are inherent to life on earth. This program provides a solid foundation in biology, chemistry, physics and anatomy related to wide variety of organisms with advanced courses that directly prepare students to be successful in the veterinary medical field.
The BS in Biology: Veterinary Concentration provides thorough training which will prepare students well for a future in the veterinary medicine.
BS in Biology: Dentistry Concentration
This is a program that focuses on the scientific study of biology and the make up of living systems. The program looks in detail at the biological and chemical substances that are inherent to life on earth. This program provides a solid foundation in biology, chemistry, physics and anatomy with advanced courses that directly prepare students to successfully complete courses offered in dental school.
The BS in Biology: Dentistry Concentration provides thorough training which will prepare students in the biological sciences and specifically for dental school.
BS in Biology: Pharmacy Concentration
This is a program that focuses on the scientific study of biology and the make up of living systems. The program looks in detail at the biological and chemical substances that are inherent to life on earth. This program provides a solid foundation in biology, chemistry, physics and anatomy with a highly directed concentration in coursework that provides all of the prerequisite courses necessary for students applying to a Doctor of Pharmacy program.
The BS in Biology: Pharmacy Concentration provides thorough training which will prepare students planning on gaining acceptance to a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) Program and other pharmacy related fields.
BS in Biology Program with Concentrations
A student that declares a BS in Biology with the various concentration must complete the following classes with a “C-” or better. Students interested in BS in Biology Program should see their advisors about course sequencing in their freshman year.
• MATH 2144 Calculus I
• BIOL 1233 Fundamentals of Biology I
• BIOL 123L Fundamentals of Biology I Lab
• BIOL 1233 Fundamentals of Biology II
• BIOL 1233L Fundamentals of Biology II Lab
• NSCI 1533 General Chemistry I
• NSCI 153L General Chemistry I Lab
• NSCI 1633 General Chemistry II
• NSCI 163L General Chemistry II lab
Grade Requirement BS in Biology all Concentrations
A student who has accumulated more than one (1) grade below a C minus (including grades of WF) in the course sequence BIOL 1233, BIOL 1243, CHEM 1533 and CHEM 1633 at Southeastern University or elsewhere, whether repeated or not, will not be permitted to continue in that major. A student who does not complete MATH 2144 Calculus I by the end of the Sophomore year (4th semester) with a grade of C minus or higher at Southeastern University or elsewhere, whether repeated or not, will not be permitted to continue in the major. A student who has accumulated three (3) or more grades below C minus (including grades of WF) in any of the following Math courses (MATH 1414, MATH 2144, MATH 2244 or MATH 3223) or Chemistry courses (CHEM 1533, CHEM 1633, CHEM 2133 or CHEM 2143) taken for college credit at Southeastern University or elsewhere, whether repeated or not, will not be permitted to continue in the major.
Biochemistry Major and Biochemistry with a Research Concentration
This program focuses on the scientific study of the chemical make up of living systems in biological world. The program stresses the chemical substances and their reactions as well as the chemical pathways involved with molecules of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. Includes course instruction in biochemistry, protein chemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, regulatory biochemistry, enzymology, chemistry of biological revenant molecules and research methods for those pursuing the research concentration.
The biochemistry major provides thorough training which will prepare students for medical school admissions, graduate study in biochemistry or graduate studies in any of the basic medical sciences. It is well suited for students aspiring to pursue M.D./Ph.D. programs.
BS in Biochemistry Program
A student that declares a BS in Biochemistry with the various concentration must complete the following classes with a “B-” or better. Students interested in BS in Biochemistry Program should see their advisors about course sequencing in their freshman year.
• MATH 2144 Calculus I
• BIOL 1233 Fundamentals of Biology I – Most be completed in the Freshman Year.
• BIOL 123L Fundamentals of Biology I Lab – Most be completed in the Freshman Year.
• BIOL 1233 Fundamentals of Biology II – Most be completed in the Freshman Year.
• BIOL 1233L Fundamentals of Biology II Lab – Most be completed in the Freshman Year.
• NSCI 1533 General Chemistry I – Most be completed in the Freshman Year.
• NSCI 153L General Chemistry I Lab – Most be completed in the Freshman Year.
• NSCI 1633 General Chemistry II – Most be completed in the Freshman Year.
• NSCI 163L General Chemistry II lab – Most be completed in the Freshman Year.
Grade Requirement BS in Biochemistry

BS in General Biology
Students considering General Biology as a major will need to carefully consider career goals. Those students who plan a career in research must have a high grade point average and high scores on the GRE to gain admission to graduate school. Those planning a career in Biology immediately upon graduation will be best served by a broad background in each of the subspecialty areas of biology. It will be necessary for all Biology majors to work closely with their academic advisor in order to ensure proper selection of the correct sequence of courses and appropriate electives for their chosen career path.
Minimum Grade Requirement BS in General Biology
A student completing a major in the biology disciplines must earn a “C-” or better in the biology and major core.
