Department of Natural Sciences Guidelines and Policies:
- Students MUST attend mandatory department advising meetings at the beginning of each semester and students are strongly advised to meet with their academic advisor at least once during the semester.
- All science labs must be taken concurrently with the science lecture courses.
- Incoming freshman should select either BIOL 1233 or BIOL 2085 their first year and then take the course that wasn’t completed their sophomore year.
- For students planning on taking the MCAT exam in the summer prior to their Senior year, they are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to finish their organic chemistry courses by the end of their second year and their biochemistry courses by the end of their third year. Students then would be prepared to apply for M.D. programs that begin the Fall semester immediately after graduation. Failure to do so can result in requiring a gap year between Southeastern and beginning medical school.
- A student desiring to declare a major in either General Biology or Biology/Pre-Medicine must first complete the Pre-Biology Core courses with a “C-” or better.
