Biochemistry/Concentration in Research, Bachelor of Science Four Year Plan  

 

Department of Natural Sciences Guidelines and Policies:

1. Students are required to earn a grade of “C-” or better in all Biology, Chemistry, Math and Physics courses.​

2. A student who has accumulated more than one (1) grade below a B minus (including grades of WF) in the course sequence BIOL 1233,
BIOL 1243, CHEM 1533 and CHEM 1633 at Southeastern University or elsewhere, whether repeated or not, will not be permitted to
continue in that major.

3. A student who does not complete MATH 2144 Calculus I by the end of the Freshmen year (2 nd semester) with a grade of B minus or
higher at Southeastern University or elsewhere, whether repeated or not, will not be permitted to continue in the major.

4. A student who has accumulated three (3) or more grades below C minus (including grades of WF) in any of the following Math courses
(MATH 1414, MATH 2144, MATH 2244 or MATH 3223) or Chemistry courses (CHEM 1533, CHEM 1633, CHEM 2133 or CHEM 2134) taken
for college credit at Southeastern University or elsewhere, whether repeated or not, will not be permitted to continue in the major.

Major Core - 59 Credits


Biology Core Studies – 10 Hours


Chemistry and Physics Core Studies – 29 Hours


Biochemistry Specialization – Minimum 20 Hours with 9 Hours of CHEM courses required


Note:


Students are required to take a minimum of 3 credit hours of either Science Research courses or Science Field Study. Maximum of 3 credit hours can count toward your Biochemistry Specialization requirements. The two Science Research courses can range in credit hours (1 – 3 credits) and Field Study courses can range in credit hours (1 – 3 credits) depending on extent of research. Department Chair &/or Dean approval required for enrollment.

BIOL 4633, BIOL 4643, BIOL 4653, CHEM 4003, CHEM 4013, & CHEM 4023   Special Topics in Biology or Current Topics in Chemistry.

Students may enroll for one Special Topics course for a total of 3 hours only to count toward the required 17 hours of Biochemistry Specialization.
