Program Overview
The Ph.D. in Education is a research-oriented degree appropriate for students who desire careers in research institutions, school districts, educational agencies, and other educational settings that require a strong research base. The Ph.D. program was designed with the intent that students would have opportunities to work collaboratively in research teams and learning communities led by faculty working on education-related research. The Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Innovations in Curriculum and Instruction provides learning experiences for the application of research in the field of education. Students choosing this degree intend to be researchers and/or educators and desire to advance in their careers. The program is divided into 4 cores, each core reflecting the unique DNA of Southeastern University and its mission of equipping graduates, who not only have an intellectual appreciation for education but also have mastered the skills necessary to lead research for influence in the 21st century, as researchers and educators for the church and society.
Program Requirement
- The Ph.D. in Education requires a minimum of 60 credit hours beyond the master’s degree.
- Students must complete 12 credit hours of doctoral core courses, 15 credits of the specialization core, and 21 credits of the research core.
- All Ph.D. students must take a minimum of 12 credits of dissertation coursework.
- Prior to the dissertation, all students must also complete the comprehensive examination.
