Bachelor of Science, General Studies (Online) Four-Year Plan  

Program Description

The BS in General Studies degree is designed to allow students autonomy and choice as to their preferred areas of academic focus. Especially created for students who want a solid foundation in the liberal arts, these programs allow for a student-centered approach to degree completion. Since students must take at least eighteen hours of upper-level courses in two distinct program tracks, the General Studies programs offer a customizable and flexible approach to degree completion.

Program Objectives

Demonstrate mastery of the Foundational Core competencies.

Exhibit content knowledge mastery in 2 areas of study.

Provide evidence of career readiness through field-based coursework.

Foundational Core - 56 Credit Hours


Intellectual and Practical Skills - 15 Hours


Engaging Human Culture and the Natural World - 19 Hours


Spiritual Formation - 13 Hours


General Studies Core - 42 Credit Hours


General Studies Tracks - 36 Hours


Choose 36 hours of 3000 or 4000 level courses equaling to two tracks of 18 hours each in two different disciplines. Consult with your advisor on course options.

*Experiential learning credits will first apply to the required 6 credit hours of experiential learning. If additional experiential learning credit has been earned in either the track 1 or track 2 discipline, it may be applied to the 18 hours required for that particular track.

Track 1 - 18 Hours


Choose 18 hours of 3000 or 4000 level courses equaling to one track of 18 hours in a discipline. Consult with your advisor on course options.

Track 2 - 18 Hours


Choose 18 hours of 3000 or 4000 level courses equaling to one track of 18 hours in a discipline. Consult with your advisor on course options.

Experiential Learning - 5 Hours


5 hours needed. Choose 5 hours of practicum, seminar, field experience, clinical or internship in either the Track 1 or Track 2 discipline.

General Electives - 23 Hours


General Electives are any courses that do not satisfy any specific course requirements of your program and which you have not previously taken.

Total Program Hours - 120 Credit Hours
