Program Description

The Communication degree with the track in Human Communication emphasizes the principles and best practices of mass-mediated communication and human communication. The communication core focuses on effective communication, storytelling, and analysis of the mass media. The human communication track includes instruction and guidance in the areas of human communication, including interpersonal, intercultural, organizational, and interracial communication. Students are guided to become better public speakers, writers, and conversationalists, whether their goal is to inform, entertain, or persuade. Students analyze communication artifacts and assess their effectiveness, persuasiveness, and ethics.

Potential Career Options

Potential career options for those pursuing this degree include communications consultant, motivational speaker, fundraising and development officer, non-profit director, communication manager, corporate communication coordinator, and other human communication-related careers. Graduates are equipped to improve the organizational communication of businesses, non-profit organizations, and corporations, whether in a full-time or consultant capacity. Graduates can find fulfillment by helping people communicate more effectively and ethically in an interpersonal or intercultural context.
