Program Description
The BFA in Creative Writing equips students with the practical and technical skills that form a foundation for creative and professional writing. It prepares students for careers in writing, while inspiring the creativity that is a necessary ingredient to success. Graduates of the BFA program will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the writing process that can be adapted and applied in any career field. They will master the tools of the craft, as well as develop strategies for entering the workplace, publishing their creative work, and continuing to develop the art of Creative Writing.
Program Objectives

Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of thematic development, description, and employment of literary devices suitable to the genre.

Analyze selected texts to consider how they are structured, and read individual stories, books, or poems, analyzing them from a writer’s point of view, considering tools of the craft.

Analyze the literary market and develop strategies for publication.

Apply revision and self-editing techniques to clarify and strengthen original writing.

Demonstrate a mastery of the reading or recitation of literary texts in public space.

Articulate how their faith influences and is reflected in their writing.

Advanced Genere Writing (Poetry, Fiction, Nonfiction) may be taken up to four times (3 Credit Hours x 4 Semesters).
