Bachelor of Science, Criminal Justice & Legal Studies Four Year Plan

Program Description:

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice provides curriculum and practical experiences designed to help develop students and practitioners with critical and analytical skills to promote the administration of justice in a diverse and global society. This program equips students with a thorough understanding of criminal justice systems and theories, and the historical foundation of criminal justice. The undergraduate curriculum is designed to allow students to explore the various agencies, personnel roles, and career opportunities available in the criminal justice field. The program seeks to educate students as well as promote workforce development by targeting practitioners currently working in the criminal justice field. Students who major in criminal justice have many opportunities to further their personal and professional development.

Program Objectives:

Criminal Justice majors will discuss the history and development of the criminal justice system and gain exposure to system professionals.
Criminal Justice majors will identify the relationship and interaction between the various criminal justice system components.
Criminal Justice majors will compare and contrast criminological theories, which attempt to explain the causes of crime.
Criminal Justice majors will conduct criminological research, interpret the results, and present the final information.
Criminal Justice majors will exhibit professional characteristics, attitudes, and competencies throughout the duration of the major.

Divine Design - 17 Credit Hours

To meet the Divine Design requirement, students may earn credit hours in general elective courses, declared minors/certificates, or enjoy other experiential learning opportunities such as study abroad, internships, or practicums. Other practicum options include PRAC 1001 (1 credit hour), PRAC 1002 (2 credit hours), PRAC 1003 (3 credit hours), PRAC 1004 (4 credit hours), up to 24 credit hours. General Electives are any college-level course that does not satisfy the above program requirements. Students must complete the above program requirements with the remaining credit hours earned in the Divine Design to meet the total program hours.
