HITH 4523 - AMERICAN CHURCH HISTORY This course examines the development and significance of religion from America’s colonial era through the present. Issues to be considered include: colonial influences; the emergence and development of revivalism and evangelicalism; missionary sending agencies and commitments; social engagement concerning poverty, slavery and civil rights, and women’s struggles and contributions; Social Gospel, Pentecostalism, and Fundamentalism; peace and war; and the nature of the church at the turn of the 21st century.
