SOWK 3223 - INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE

This course provides an introduction to social work practice in an international context and/or with immigrant and refugee populations in the United States. Theories and perspectives underpinning current practice in international social work will be addressed and global social welfare issues will be discussed. Students will explore the historical, religious, cultural, environmental, political, and economic factors that impact social welfare policies and the delivery of human services in different regions of the world. The various connections between domestic and international social work will be addressed, along with the role of international social welfare and/or mission organizations in the delivery of such services.
