This seminar will consider the complex relationship between myth and philosophy in the ancient, pagan world, ancient Christian world, and modern world within Western Civilization. Important to this course is a consideration of how the Incarnation serves as a resolution to both myth and philosophy as well as the role myth and philosophy ought to play in human formation. This seminar requires close attention be given to those aspects of life that most people receive as “given” in their daily living such that deeply embedded cultural assumptions can be unearthed and appropriately evaluated in light of the norms of the program.
