BIOL 4433 - DIAGNOSTIC CLINICAL FOUNDATIONS This course will mainly utilize Problem-based learning, or PBL, as its pedagogical practice. This practice is employed in many medical and graduate programs. While there are variants of the technique, the approach includes the presentation of a clinical case or vignette to a small group of students who engage in discussion and problem solving over several class meetings. The professor will act as a facilitator who only provides supportive guidance for the students. The discussion of the problem is structured to enable students to create conceptual models to explain the multidisciplinary problem presented in the case. As students reveal the limits of their knowledge, they identify learning issues. Between classes, students research their learning issues and share results at the next class session.
