CHEM 4223 - NEUROCHEMISTRY This course is a study into the chemical and biochemical concepts of neurotransmitters in neuroscience. The roles of metals; small molecules; and important biomolecules, such as lipids, proteins, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids; in neuroscience will be discussed as well as the pathologies of tauopathy, amyloid genesis, aggregation, and neurological/neuromuscular disorders with respect to mechanisms and treatments.The biochemical basis of neuroactive drugs, toxins, and diseases will be discussed. In addition, perceptive insights into the complex fields of drug abuse, compulsive behaviors, addiction, treatment, recovery, and prevention will also be addressed.
