CHEM 213L - ORGANIC CHEMISTRY I LAB This laboratory is to accompany CHEM 2133. The laboratory work includes learning the basic techniques in recrystallization, sublimation, melting point determination, distillation, liquid/liquid extraction, thin layer chromatography, column chromatography, and molecular modeling software. Mastery of these basic techniques lays the foundation for carrying out a number of organic syntheses or natural product isolations. Students are provided with hands-on access to state-of-the-art instrumentation for the characterization of synthetic products or organic unknowns using standard analysis methods such as FT-IR, FT-NMR, UV/Vis spectroscopy, polarimetry, refractive index, gas chromatography, and other modern techniques of characterization.
