Biology Majors-Academic Policies

Department of Natural Sciences Guidelines and Policies:

1. Students are required to earn a grade of “C-” or better in all Biology, Chemistry, Math, and Physics courses.​

2. Students must complete all of the Pre-Biology Core courses at Southeastern University or elsewhere with a C minus or higher to continue in this major.

3. A student who does not complete MATH 2144 Calculus I by the end of the Sophomore year (4th semester) with a grade of C minus or higher at Southeastern University or elsewhere, whether repeated or not, will not be permitted to continue in the major.

4. A student who has accumulated three (3) or more grades below C minus (including grades of WF) in any of the following Math courses (MATH 1414, MATH 2023, MATH 2144, or MATH 2244) or Chemistry courses (CHEM 1533, CHEM 1633, CHEM 2133 or CHEM 2134) taken for college credit at Southeastern University or elsewhere will not be permitted to continue in the major.

Discursive Inquiry - 6 Credit Hours


Natural-Scientific Inquiry - 4 Credit Hours


Quantitative Inquiry - 3 Credit Hours


Socio-Historical Inquiry - Select Two (2) of the Following (6 Credit Hours):


CREATIVE-AESTHETIC INQUIRY - Select One (1) of the Following (3 Credit Hours):


Major Core - 71 Credit Hours


Concentration in Medical Sciences - Minimum 13 Credit Hours


(MUST INCLUDE 2 COURSES WITH LABS)

-F (Fall only), S (Spring only), FO (Fall odd years only), FE (Fall even years only), SO (Spring odd years only), & SE (Spring even years only).

The rotation schedule is subject to change. Students must double check course offerings with advisor.

 

* Students may enroll for one Special Topics Course for a total of 3 hours only to count toward the required 13 hours of Medical Science Concentration.

Divine Design- 15 Credit Hours


To meet the Divine Design requirement, students may earn credit hours in general elective courses, declared minors/certificates, or enjoy other experiential learning opportunities such as study abroad, internships, or practicums. Other practicum options include PRAC 1001  (1 credit hour), PRAC 1002   (2 credit hours), PRAC 1003   (3 credit hours), PRAC 1004   (4 credit hours), up to 24 credit hours. General Electives are any college-level course that does not satisfy the above program requirements. Students must complete the above program requirements with the remaining credit hours earned in the Divine Design to meet the total program hours.
