Bachelor of Arts, Music: Four-Year Plan  

You must pass all Music Department courses with a C- or higher.

The Bachelor of Arts in Music is a flexible degree program designed to give students the opportunity to pursue the skills necessary for professional work as a vocal or instrumental performer. Students in this program work closely with faculty to develop the tools to be successful in their chosen path in music.  The program emphasizes pertinent and real world skills in performance, composition, recording technology, and more, all while developing a strong grasp on music theory, music history, and ear training. 

Students needing developmental assistance in piano skills will be required to take class piano for three semesters or until able to pass piano proficiency exam.  These courses count as elective credit.  Class Piano courses are 1 credit.

Habits of Inquiry (22 Credit Hours)


Discursive Inquiry (6 Credit Hours)


Natural-Scientific Inquiry- Select (1) One of the Following with Lab: (4 Credit Hours)


Quantitative Inquiry Select (1) One of the Following: (3 Credit Hours)


Socio-Historical Inquiry- Select (2) Two of the Following: (6 Credit Hours)


Creative-Aesthetic Inquiry - Select (1) One of the the Following: (3 Credit Hours)


Large Ensemble (6 Credit Hours):


Six semesters of at least one ensemble

Applied Lessons (8 Credit Hours)


Four at 1000 Level, and Three at 3000 Level; Two-Credits During Recital Semester

Divine Design - 37 Credit Hours


To meet the Divine Design requirement, students may earn credit hours in general elective courses, declared minors/certificates, or enjoy other experiential learning opportunities such as study abroad, internships, or practicums. Other practicum options include PRAC 1001  (1 credit hour), PRAC 1002   (2 credit hours), PRAC 1003   (3 credit hours), PRAC 1004   (4 credit hours), up to 24 credit hours. General Electives are any college-level course that does not satisfy the above program requirements. Students must complete the above program requirements with the remaining credit hours earned in the Divine Design to meet the total program hours.
