Program Description

The Associate of Arts (AA) in Pre-Nursing program is designed to provide students with the foundational science and general education credits required for transfer into a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. It is intended for students who are seeking the most direct and cost-effective pathway to complete the prerequisites for competitive BSN programs and who wish to gain expertise in human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, psychology, and statistics. Graduates of the program are prepared for roles such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Phlebotomist, or Monitor Technician (after obtaining additional certification) while applying to BSN programs, with the ultimate career goal of becoming a Registered Nurse (RN) in settings including hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community health centers. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, strong communication skills, and the foundational knowledge of human systems, with opportunities for meeting the common prerequisite courses for BSN programs across the state. The degree requires a total of 60 credit hours, of which 34 hours are in the foundational core, 24 hours are in the major core, and 2 hours are Divine Design experiential credit hours. For students wishing to continue their studies, this program prepares for application to the SEU BSN program and other public state universities where they can complete their remaining 60-70 upper-division credits to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
