Program-Specific Admission/Entrance Requirements

An essay on the topic, “Why I want to pursue my master’s degree at Southeastern University.” Address how the Master of Education will help you improve your current/future career and how you can integrate your Christian faith. This essay should be two to three pages long, include your full name, and use 12-point, Times New Roman font. It should be double-spaced with one-inch margins.
A completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with evidence of one of the following:
a minimum GPA of 3.0
a combined score of at least 300 on the Verbal and Quantitative sections of the GRE (Graduate Record Exam) and a 4.0 or higher on the Analytical Writing section of the GRE. GRE scores must be within the past 5 years. (If you took the GRE before August of 2011, your combined score must be at least 1,000 on the Verbal and Quantitative sections.)
For non-native English speakers, a current TOEFL score at the mean level or higher.

Program Description

Advance your effectiveness & employability with NILD Educational Therapy®. The online MEd in Educational Therapy allows you to explore how to assess student learning needs through an individualized, therapeutic approach. The program's concentration in NILD Educational Therapy® provides you with the credentials needed to earn your NILD Educational Therapy® certification. It includes three, four week, NILD courses for certification, and required attendance in a one-week virtual intensive. Whether you want to work in a private or public school, clinic or private practice, you can help students flourish. SEU is one of few schools in the nation offering this type of program. You will study: How to promote higher cognitive, academic, perceptual, and emotional functioning in students, psychological and educational assessment of students, oral language skills development, mediated learning experiences, qualitative and quantitative research in educational environments, historical and current practices of educating those with high incidence/high functioning disabilities (learning disabilities, high functioning ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia), student assessment and the role it plays in effective teaching, individualized educational plans, programs, and lesson planning. Our NILD Educational Therapy® program's challenging curriculum gives you the opportunity to actively participate and apply concepts you learn. Research-based techniques and real-world opportunities to apply them are embedded in coursework.
