Program Description

The BA in Historical & Literary Studies is designed to hone the skills needed to interpret pressing political, social, and cultural issues of the past and present, such as global health and disease, social relations, and problems of racial prejudice and intolerance through the lens of one of our three discipline tracks: English, History, or Writing. It is intended for students who wish to engage with the foundational literature, research methods, and professional standards of English, History, or Writing and who wish to gain expertise in their discipline through innovative course work and experiential learning opportunities. Graduates of the program are prepared for roles such as editors, publishers, writers, and politicians in industries including major publishing houses, public service, and politics. The curriculum emphasizes workplace knowledge and skills, with opportunities for presentations and publication. The degree requires a total of 120 credit hours, of which 34 are in the foundational core, 42 are in the major core, and 41 are Divine Design elective credit hours. For students wishing to continue their studies, this program prepares them for future graduate or professional study in law school, business school, or other fields related to the selected track.
