Identify and demonstrate proper use and application for pipe, fittings, and valves.
Describe the anatomy of gas and electric water heaters, identify controls for gas-fired units including standing pilot, piezo igniters, power vent with HSI, vent motors, and pressure switches.
Diagnose and repair major plumbing fixtures, inclusive of issues related to clogged fixtures. Students will understand the fundamentals of piping system backflow (and specific hazards related to it) as well as diagnose and repair the two causes of reverse flow and determine ways the water supply can be protected.
Demonstrate understanding of additional competencies, including tankless water heaters, drain, and venting systems, to be prepared to sit for industry certification exam after completing the program.
