Program Description
The Associate of Science (AS) in Nursing program is designed to prepare graduates to pass the NCLEX-RN exam and begin practicing immediately as a Registered Nurse (RN). It is intended for students who are seeking a direct entry path into the nursing workforce with a strong focus on clinical skills and patient care and who wish to gain expertise in foundational sciences, nursing theory, clinical practice, and patient education across diverse populations. Graduates of the program are prepared for roles as a Registered Nurse (RN) in settings including hospitals (acute care, medical-surgical units, emergency departments), long-term care facilities, clinics, and home health agencies. The curriculum emphasizes clinical competency, critical thinking in patient care, and applying nursing theory to practical situations, with opportunities for extensive supervised clinical rotations in various healthcare settings. The degree requires a total of 70 credit hours, of which 22 hours are in the foundational core and 48 hours are in the major core. For students wishing to continue their studies, this program prepares them for future professional development through RN-to-BSN degree completion programs which lead to advanced roles such as Nurse Educator, Nurse Manager, or specialization in areas like Critical Care or Public Health.
